Olaf from 'Frozen' launched into space

Olaf, a popular snowman character from Disney’s “Frozen,” has made his way into space.

According to Space.com, Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov was given an Olaf doll by his eight-year-old daughter as a talisman before his journey to space, which began Sunday.

Shkaplerov and his crewmates, Terry Virts and Samantha Cristoforetti, lifted off for the International Space Station (ISS) in the Soyuz TMA-15M spacecraft from Kazakstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on Sunday, successfully docking with the space station after jetting off for five hours and 48 minutes.

The Olaf doll was left hanging from a cord in the spacecraft and served as the flight’s zero-gravity indicator, beginning to float when the crew arrived in space.

Olaf isn’t the first cute zero-gravity indicator to be launched in space. Previous talismans include Angry Bird, Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear and Smokey Bear.
