North Korea condemns new British drama for mocking Kim

Listen

North Korea has denounced an upcoming British TV drama for mocking its leadership, and called on the British government to ban the program.

Pyongyang said Sunday the new Channel 4 drama “Opposite Number” will slander the North and its nuclear program. It centers on a British nuclear scientist captured by the North and compelled to develop nuclear weapons.

“(The TV series) is based on a sheer lie intended to give the impression that (the North’s) nuclear, treasured sword for self-defense was manufactured by 'illegally acquiring' nuclear technology from Britain,” said the National Defense Commission (NDC), the highest organ of the country’s military.

The North has also called it “nothing but a slanderous farce” in a statement to the state news agency. The NDC spokesman also added that the North already has “unimaginably powerful nuclear weaponry.”

Previously, the dictatorial regime also blasted an American movie “The Interview,” in which the two main characters are on a mission to kill its leader Kim Jong-un.
