The recent suicide of a Minnesota woman who starred in an adult film is being portrayed as a cautionary tale about pornography in the social media age.
According to reports, Alyssa Funke, 19, appeared in a film for an adult entertainment company called CastingCouch-X.
But when the scene appeared online, Funke, reportedly an excellent student who wanted to become an anesthesiologist, became the target of abuse.
According to KMSP-TV, many comments came from students at her former high school. One post referred to her as a “thot,” which is slang for prostitute.
Funke fired back, saying, “The people that envy & hate you the most, stalk you on social media the most,” the Daily Mail reported.
But she later bought a gun and killed herself, leading to speculation that the comments may have played a role in her death.
KMSP-TV said police were still investigating, but did not believe the postings on social media constituted criminal harassment.
