A porn actress in California in need of medical attention is butting heads with an Internet fundraising site that nixed her campaign to seek help.
According to reports, the actress, Eden Alexander is suffering from a skin infection called Steven Johnson’s Syndrome triggered by a nearly fatal reaction to antibiotics. Her friends set a fundraising page for her on crowd-sourcing site GiveForward.
However, WePay, the payment processor for the site, said the page violated a rule prohibiting “payments…in connection with pornographic items.”
This caused an uproar on the Internet, to which WePay responded that it had discovered tweets by Alexander offering adult material in exchange for donations.
But supporters of the porn star bounced back, setting up a new fundraiser on another site and reportedly raising nearly $9,000 in one day.
Alexander tweeted earlier this month about her ailments and accused doctors of refusing to treat her because of her profession.
