Saudi man fined for allowing wife to drive

Listen

A man in Saudi Arabia has been fined $230 Sunday for allowing his wife to drive his own car, local media reported.

According to the Saudi transportation authorities, the 28-year-old man let his wife drive his car on a coastal road without a proper driver’s license Thursday.

They said the 23-year-old woman was also fined for driving without a license.

Along with the fines, the man’s vehicle has been impounded and will not be allowed to be operated for a week, the authorities said.

The couples were released on bond after aligning documents to the effect that they will not violate traffic regulations in the future.

There are no specific regulations prohibiting women from driving in Saudi Arabia but the country has made it a rule to not issue driver’s licenses to women which has recently come under fire for discrimination.
