'Real diamonds' used for teeth whitening

A real diamond is used for the teeth whitening process in a cosmetic dentistry in New York, reported the New York Daily News on Tuesday.

At the “New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry,” celebrity dentist Dr. Emanuel Layliev introduced real diamonds to exfoliate stains before whitening. The diamond comes in a form of a paste applied with an electronic toothbrush.

“The abrasive cleans the pores of the tooth enamel, allowing the bleaching process to work more effectively,” Layliev explained.

The treatment then goes through the Phillips Zoom whitening treatment, normally lightening the teeth one or two shades brighter under a bleaching lamp.

This diamond treatment costs $250.
