Drink till you drop… then pick up a bonus

For some men, just thinking about it brings shivers of delight: Drink till you drop and you get a handsome yearend bonus.

It sounds like a dream come true but one company in China is offering yearend bonuses to the amount of drinking employees have been doing.

According to reliable sources, the CEO of one firm in the Chinese city of Jinhwa has cash piled in his office, proposing to provide bonuses commensurate with how much his subordinates can drink.

The bonuses amount to 500 yuan (about $85) for a shot of hard liquor, 200 yuan for a glass of wine and 100 yuan for a mug of beer. The compensation was double for women.

Owing to the distinctive nature of the proposition, most of the employees were fully intoxicated and cleaning out their systems all over the place, the sources said.

Some of the drinkers made away with as much as 10,000 yuan ($1,700) but most strayed away with an average of 1,000 yuan.

There was no clear reason why the company CEO decided that the amount of alcohol consumption should form the basis of a yearend bonus.

However, most of the employees agreed that it made little sense to equate the amount of alcohol that a person can drink to bonuses which should be based on job performance.

“This cannot be good for your health,” one worker lamented.
