Monster fish caught in Norway could be the biggest cod ever

Listen

The one that didn't get away was a really, really big one.

The five-foot long, 103-pound cod was fished out of the Norwegian Sea by Michael Eisele, 44, of Kiel, Germany.

It has been submitted to the International Game Fishing Association, which could confirm it as the largest cod ever reeled in by a fisherman.

If that happens, the Eisele cod would eclipse the previous record catch recorded by Alphonse Bielevich of Hampton, N.H.

That fish was verified by the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game as weighing nearly 97 pounds at a length of 63 inches, or just over 5 feet.

A fish-and-chips owner in Britain speculated that the Eisele cod could feed about 200 diners.

The latest haul was made by Eisele in the Breivikfjord near Hammerfest, northern Norway, on April 28.
