A disabled dog was rescued after allegedly being buried alive by school caretakers annoyed by its barking.

The unwanted pet, covered in dirt, was found under the ground in the school playing field, located in the Cape Town township of Khayelitsh, reported Daily Mail on Saturday.

The principal of the Luhlaza Secondary School ordered the two men to bury the dog which he thought interrupts for teachers and the students to take a class.

Horrified witnesses called animal welfare officers to ask for help. Although the two men insisted the dog had already died before, the rescuers dig out to confirm whether their claim is true or not. They found that the desperate animal was close to death.

“The dog was saved by a local vet and his assistant who named it ‘Warrior’ after his ordeal,” said Animal welfare boss Christina Pretorius. “The men initially claimed the dog was dead, but on further questioning admitted the animal was still alive when they buried it.”

In the meantime, the two men were arrested by the police who confirmed they are charged with animal cruelty. In addition, Cape Town's provincial government has launched an investigation into the incident. “We are horrified by this incident and our district office is investigating,” said Bronagh Casey, a spokeswoman of department of education.
