Chinese businessman reveals torture video by police

Listen

A businessman jailed after taking his grievances to Beijing over a battle with a local court has recounted grim details of torture while in police custody, the Yonhap News Agency reported Tuesday, quoting South China Morning Post.

According to the report, a video on the alleged torture by police, which was posted online, has sparked public outrage.

Yang Jin-der, an auto broker in south China’s Henan Province, was jailed in July after being sentenced to 21-and-a- half years in prison on charges of leading an illegal terrorist group and disturbing public order.

In the video taken during a meeting with a lawyer at a police detention center in mid-September, Yang claimed that police used violence to force him to make false confessions.

Yang argued that he was relocated to a police dogs training center after being arrested in October last year.

He said he, handcuffed and shackled, was forced to enter a kennel and a dog gnawed his face.

He said policemen sprayed powdered pepper on him, while he was handcuffed and shackled, and seared his feet with a lighter. The video shows that his feet were burnt black and the skin peeled.

Yang said policemen trampled all over his head with their shoes on and he shed blood after being hit in the eyes. Because of it, he said, he could not walk on his own for nearly one year.
