A female official, who was notorious for brutal executions in Libya, was finally arrested last Friday by revolutionaries in Tripoli, Saudi-owned Arabic-language television news channel Al-Arabiya reported Monday.
Huda ben Amer is infamous for her cruel public executions. When she was an executioner in 1984, she shocked crowds by pulling on a Gadhafi opponent until he ceased struggling. Huda also took part in violent clampdowns on dissident students, who nicknamed her “the vampire” and “the executioner.”
She had twice been mayor of Benghazi and had risen by the start of the uprising to become a senior official in the General People's Congress. Her father, Fathi ben Amer, headed to the Benghazi stadium carrying his child and a knife, after hearing the news that Gadhafi announced his intention to resign. In front of thousands, he placed the knife on his son’s neck and threatened to slaughter him if Gadhafi insisted on resigning.
Huda ben Amer, whose house in Benghazi was burned down a week after the start of the Feb. 17 Revolution, has been on a list of 33 persons wanted by the revolutionaries.
