Online users poke fun at failed Rapture prediction

Although the day of “Rapture” as predicted by Harold Camping may have fizzled into nothing, some online users are taking advantage of the debacle to change what might’ve been just a simple disgrace into a cultural meme.

One video that was uploaded on YouTube, a popular video-sharing service, parodies what might have happened if the world had actually ended. The video depicts a fake news broadcast from CNN, and combines real voices from news anchors with footage taken from a recent science fiction movie, “Skyline.” The video clip shows alien ships hovering over a large metropolis, with citizens being vacuumed up into what is surely a fiery demise in the bowels of the extraterrestrial spacecraft.

Online viewers of the video commented on the wit and levity of the clip, and said it underscored the ridiculousness of the end-of-the-world prediction. “This would seem believable to gullible people,” said a comment left on the video.

자막을 통해 미 정부가 휴거의 시작을 공식 인정했다는 소식과 최근 불륜파문을 겪고 있는 영화배우이자 전직 캘리포니아 주지사 아놀드 슈워제네거의 대선 입후보 소식을 전한 제작자들의 깨알같은 웃음 포인트 또한 주목할 부분. 이를 확인한 누리꾼들은 영화의 일부 장면(SF 블록버스터 영화 <스카이라인>으로 추정)을 짜깁기 해 놀라운 결과물을 만들어냈다며 크게 즐거워했다.
