1,600-meter-high building to be built in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi royal family has unveiled plans to construct the world’s tallest building, the British Daily Mail reported on Monday.

Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia will be an incredible 1.6km tall when it is completed and consist of hotels, offices, luxury apartments and a shopping center. The structure will be twice the height of the world’s current tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

It will take nearly 12 minutes to reach the top of the 21 trillion won building in the elevator.

The Saudi royal family-owned Kingdom Holding Company will be financing, which is the nation’s largest firm. KHC has employed American company Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, who designed the Burj Khalifa.

Skyscraper specialists Emaar, which built the Burj, are understood to have won the contract to construct the tower, which will be built outside the Red Sea port city of Jeddah as the centerpiece of a new 80,000 population city.

사우디 왕가가 세계에서 가장 높은 빌딩을 건축할 계획을 승인했다고 영국의 데일리 메일지가 11일 보도했다.

‘킹덤 타워’라 불리는 이 건물은 완공시 높이가 1609m에 달하며 이 타워에는 호텔, 사무실, 호화 아파트와 쇼핑 센터가 들어설 계획이다.

이 건물은 현재 세계 최고층 빌딩 두바이의 부르즈 칼리파 (828m) 보다 무려 두배나 더 높을 것이다.

1층에서 꼭대기까지 엘리베이터로 12분 걸리는 높이다.

사우디 왕실 소유의 킹덤 지주 회사가 모든 비용을 부담할 것이며 설계는 부르즈 칼리파를 맡았던 미국계 회사 Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture이 낙찰되었다.

고층 건물 전문 건설업자 Emaar이 킹덤 타워를 건설 계약을 맺었고 홍해와 맞닿은 사우디아라비아 80,000 인구 도시 지다에 들어선다.
