Shes single, happy, and 103-years-old

Some might turn to the latest scientific findings or dietary advice to help them prolong their life expectancy.

But Gladys Gough, who has reached an incredible 103 years old, puts her longevity down to her single status.

The centenarian from Stoke-on-Trent says she couldn't be bothered with men and has never had a boyfriend, let alone married or had children.

Instead of settling down, she travelled the world with her sister, visiting far flung and exotic countries, and made sure she always ate her dinner.

Staff at the care home where Gladys lives describes her as a 'charmer.'

But the life-long singleton maintains it’s her avoidance of the opposite sex which could be the secret to her long and healthy life.

“I always eat my dinner. I've always made sure that I've eaten well,” she said.

“I never got married or had a boyfriend either. That probably had something to do with it. I just couldn't be bothered with men.”

Friend Jean Cross, aged 84, of Stoke, said: 'Gladys has known me all my life and used to take me for walks in the pram when I was a baby.

“She never married but has been to so many countries, I can’t think of many places she hasn’t been to.

“She’s so lovely and has a great sense of humor. She is very witty woman.”

Care manager Sharon Rowlson said: “Although Gladys never had a boyfriend or husband, she certainly is a charmer.”

'She’s a joy to have here and we’re pleased to see her celebrate her 103rd birthday.'

103세에도 행복한 싱글女

일부는 장수를 위해 최신 과학적 연구결과나 영양섭취에 대한 조언을 찾을 것이다.

그러나 무려 103세인 영국인 글래디스 고흐는 자신의 장수를 독신 덕이라고 말한다.

스토크 온 트랜트 주민인 고흐는 남자 때문에 애쓴 적이 없으며, 결혼이나 자식은 물론이고 남자친구도 있었던 적이 없다고 말한다.

한 곳에서 정착을 하기 보다는 친언니와 세계여행을 하며 멀고 진기한 나라들을 보고 석식을 항상 챙겨먹었다.

고흐의 집이 되는 요양원의 직원들은 그여자가 "매력녀"라고 말한다.

그러나 한 평생을 독신으로 지내온 고흐는 이성을 피했다는 것이 자신이 건강과 장수의 비범이라고 주장한다.

"나는 항상 저녁을 먹는다. 언제나 밥은 잘 먹도록 했다."

"결혼한 적도, 남자친구를 사귄 적도 없었다. 아마 그것도 [내 장수와] 관련이 됐을 것이다. 남자 두고 신경 쓰기가 싫었다."

고흐의 친구인 진 크로스 (84)는 "글래디스는 나를 평생 알았으며 내가 아기 때에 유모차를 밀며 산책 시켜줬었다.

"결혼을 한 적은 없지만 세계 나라는 정말로 많이 다녔다. 안 다녀 본 곳을 거의 생각할 수 없을 정도이다.

"정말로 좋은 사람이고 유머감각도 뛰어난다. 위트가 넘치는 여자이다."

요양원 직원 샤론 로울선은 "글래디스는 남자친구나 남편이 있었던 적은 없지만 역시 매력녀이다.

"여기에 와 있다는 것이 기쁨이고 103세 생일 잔치를 올리는 게 참 보기 좋다."
