Spillcam is the Top Word of 2010

“Spillcam” is the top word of 2010, according to an annual global survey of the English language released by the Global Language Monitor (GLM) Monday. The BP Spillcam instantly beamed the immensity of the Gulf Spill around the world to the dismay of environmentalists, BP’s PR staff and the President, the survey said.

“Vuvuzela,” brightly colored plastic horns that came to prominence at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, placed second.

The GLM selected “Anger and Rage,” the characterization of the U.S. electorate by pundits ― also witnessed in France, Spain and Greece ― as the top phrase.

“Obamamania,” which was the top phrase in 2008 and 2009, ranked at the bottom of this year’s political buzzwords.

Chinese leader Hu Jintao was chosen as the top name of 2010, followed by iPad, Barack Obama and the 33 Chilean coal miners.

‘Spillcam’ 미 언어조사기관 올해 영어단어

미국 멕시코만 원유 유출 사고 현장의 실시간 영상을 뜻하는 ‘스필캠 (spillcam)’이 미국 언어 조사기관 글로벌 랭기지 모니터 조사에서 14일 올해의 영어 단어로 뽑혔다.

2위는 월드컵 기간 내내 울려 퍼졌던 남아프리카공화국의 전통악기 ‘부부젤라’다.

최고 문구는 미국 그리스 등 전 세계의 화난 유권자를 묘사한 ‘분노와 격분’이었다.

2008년 2009년 연속 최고 인기 문구였던 ‘오바마니아 (버락 오바마 미국 대통령 추종자)’는 최하위 10위로 떨어졌다.

올해의 이름엔 후진타오 중국 국가주석이 1위에 올랐으며 iPad, 오바마 미국 대통령, 33명의 칠레 광부가 뒤를 이었다.
