Sexually abused protest against the Vatican

Sexually molested victims protested in Rome joined by their families on Oct. 31.

According to reports from international news agencies including AP and AFP, dozens of women gathered in Rome to protest against the Vatican, claiming that they were sexually abused by Catholic priests during a demonstration near the Holly See.

The demonstrators from all over Europe with their family members raised their voices with the pickets written in the slogans such as 'Hands off our children' and 'Church without abuse’.

They criticized Pope Benedict XVI for neglecting the victims and not taking a strong action against those who committed the abuse.

The protesters first planned a rally in St. Peter’s Square but fail to do so due to the Italian police’s intervention.

The spokesman of the Vatican Federico Lombardi suggested a compromise, but the protesters rejected it, saying “Shame on you.” He could do nothing but head back to the palace under the escort of police officers.

Lombardi said in the phone interview with AP he is willing to meet the leaders of the protesters over the issue.

가톨릭 성추행 피해자 로마서 시위

가톨릭 성직자로부터 성추행을 당한 피해자와 가족들이 31일 이탈리아 로마에서 시위를 벌였다.

뉴스통신 AP, AFP 등 외신에 따르면 유럽 각국에서 모인 수십명의 가톨릭 성추행 피해자, 가족들은 교황청 인근에서 "우리 아이들을 만지지 마라", "성적 학대 없는 교회" 등의 문구가 쓰인 피켓을 들고 시위를 벌였다.

시위대는 교황 베네딕토 16세가 교회 성추팽 피해자를 위해 충분한 조처를 하지 않았을 뿐 아니라 성직자에 의한 성추행을 범죄행위로 규정하고도 당사자 처벌 등 구체적인 조처를 하지 않았다고 비난했다.

이들은 애초 성베드로광장으로 이동해 집회를 열 예정이었으나 이탈리아 경찰이 바티칸시티로 통하는 거리를 차단, 성베드로광장에 진입하지 못했다.

페데리코 롬바르디 교황청 대변인이 대화하겠다며 시위대에 접근하자 시위대는 "부끄러운 줄 알라"고 외치며 대화를 거부했고 롬바르디 대변인은 경찰의 호위를 받으며 교황청으로 돌아갔다.

롬바르디 대변인은 AP와 전화통화에서 시위 책임자들이 면담을 원한다면 자신의 집무실에서 이들을 만나겠다고 말했다
