Bank robbed by Darth Vader?

People at a Chase bank in Long Island, N.Y., were not screaming, but just dumbfounded when a robber broke into the bank on July 22.

Unlike other bank burglars, the man decked out in "Star Wars" villain Darth Vader mask with a cape and camouflage pants, which was the only part of the uniform that was out of place. Then he used a handgun to rob the bank ― not a light saber.

Suffolk County police Detective Sgt. William Lamb said at least one customer at the time did not think the theft was legit. "The customer thought it might have been a joke and not a serious attempt at a robbery," Lamb said.

"I thought it was pretty comical, but I guess this guy was pretty serious about needing some money," said Michael Aloisio, who works at a nearby restaurant and saw the bandit run past.

The suspect is still in large and was last seen running across a parking lot.

The robbery comes about a week after a so-called bouquet bandit held up a Manhattan bank.

이유는 바로 강도들의 독특한 복장 때문. 무시무시한 인상을 풍기는 복장을 선택하는 일반 강도와 다르게, 그는 영화 ‘스타워즈’에 등장하는 인물은 ‘다스 베이더’로 분장한 채 은행에 들이닥쳤다.

푸른색 철통 헬멧과 망토를 걸친 이 강도는 상의 ‘패션’과 어울리지 않는 군복 바지로 또 한 번 웃음을 샀다.

이 사건을 조사중인 서퍽카운티의 윌리엄 램 형사는 “고객들은 그가 장난을 치고 있다고 생각했다. 한 손님은 ‘다스 베이더와 진짜 똑같네’라고 조롱하기도 했다.”면서 “하지만 그는 은행을 털러 들어온 강도였고, 그의 무기는 장난감이 아니었다.”고 현지 언론에 밝혔다.

우스꽝스러운 모습으로 은행창구직원을 협박해 현금 다량을 훔쳐낸 이 강도는 현재 수배중이다. 경찰은 정확한 피해금액을 밝히지 않은 대신 당시 CCTV에 촬영된 모습 일부를 공개했다.
