Google captures naked Taiwanese girl

Google's map service with real street views has stirred controversy as it captured images of a naked woman as well as a man urinating in the street in Taiwan a few months ago.

The Taiwanese woman in her 20s was shocked when she saw a photo of herself on the Internet, in her birthday suit, closing a window in her house.

She traced the source of the picture to Google's map service. Some netizens found the image and spread it over the websites for fun.

Even the address of the house was revealed which some men visited, mostly ending up being caught by the police. In the end, the girl and her family decided to move. Understandably.

A little while after, a similar case was reported in the country. A truck driver was spotted urinating on the street and the image was spread all over the world.

There has been growing concern over privacy due to the new feature on Google's map service.

"What if it were me?" said a Taiwanese netizen. "There should be a tighter filtering system because the search engine could invade our privacy as much as it makes our life easier."

The new feature on Google's map service that was launched three years ago, called "Street View," provides panoramic views in every direction along most of the streets in cities all over the world.

구글 '스트리트뷰'에 찍힌 나체女 어쩌나

세계 최대 인터넷 검색업체 구글의 3차원 지도서비스 구글맵스 스트리트뷰에 알몸 여성과 노상방뇨하는 시민 등이 포착돼 타이완에서 사생활 침해 논란이 불거졌다.

지난 3월 타이완 화롄에 사는 이름이 알려지지 않은 20대 여성은 인터넷에 나도는 사진을 보고 충격에 빠졌다. 방에서 알몸으로 창문을 닫는 모습이 담긴 사진이 커뮤니티 사이트에 급속히 퍼지고 있던 것.

문제의 사진이 유출된 경로를 추적해보니 범인은 구글맵스 스트리트뷰였다. 우연히 이 장치에 알몸이 포착된 것을 본 짓궂은 타이완 네티즌들이 이 사진을 장난으로 퍼뜨려 벌어진 일이었다.

중화권 소식을 전하는 차이나 뉴스에 따르면 이 여성의 알몸과 집주소가 인터넷에 나돌았고 일부 남성들이 만나달라고 집에 찾아오는 등 몇차례 소란이 일었다. 그중 몇 명은 경찰에 붙잡혀 주의조치를 받기도 했다. 사생활 침해로 곤혹을 치른 이 여성과 가족들은 급기야 이사를 결심했다.

이 해프닝이 일어난 뒤 얼마 되지 않아 타이완 타이둥에서도 비슷한 피해 사례가 보고됐다. 트럭을 운전하는 남성이 몰래 노상방뇨를 하는 모습이 스트리트뷰에 포착됐고 이 사진이 인터넷에 나돌아 정신적 피해를 당한 것.

스트리트뷰로 인한 사생활 침해 사건들이 연거푸 일어나자 타이완 네티즌들은 이 같은 불상사가 더이상 일어나지 않도록 자체 필터링 시스템을 강화해야 한다고 주장했다.

한 타이완 네티즌은 "내 가족이 당한 일이라고 생각하면 소름이 끼친다."면서 "편리한 서비스도 좋지만 사생활을 심각하게 침해할 수 있는 만큼 적절한 필터링 시스템이 있어야 할 것"이라고 목소리를 높였다.

한편 도심의 상세한 풍경을 눈높이에서 볼 수 있는 '스트리트 뷰'는 서비스 시작 직후부터 비키니 수영복 차림으로 일광욕을 즐기는 여성, 성인 업체 인근을 어슬렁거리는 남성의 얼굴 등 개인의 사생활을 침해할 수 있는 사진이 공개되면서 큰 논란을 낳았다.
