Striker Jong hopes to date Wonder Girls

North Korean striker Jong Tae-se is gaining international attention as he and his team enter the 2010 World Cup. Foreign media have dubbed the 26-year old as a footballer who "plays like Rooney, but behaves like Beckham," for his decidedly carefree, un-North Korean ways.

The Associated Press reported their observations of Jong in South Africa, June 14. With the title ``North Korea's Rooney loves his cars, clothes and rap,'' AP gave a detailed account of Jong's background, hobbies and future hopes.

The AP reported that although Jong was born and raised in Japan, he had decided to join the North Korean team. They also said that the forward "loves to shop, snowboard dreams of marrying Korea's Posh Spice" and that "he collects sneakers and considers himself a bit of a fashion hound."

The news agency also revealed Jong's hopes for himself five years later: "driving a car worthy of a rap star, with a pop star like one of the singers from the Wonder Girls on his arm, and playing for a big-name club in Europe."

The AP also said that Jong "worried a lot about the difference in background", as "the North Korean team lacks a lot of the equipment and the infrastructure that Jong's been used to, as a J-League player" and that teammates would "flock to his room during overseas matches, asking to listen to his music, play Super Mario, borrow his books or fluorescent Nike running shoes."

The AP also reported that though patriotic Jong "is moved to tears when he hears the country's anthem," one could not "expect him to move anytime soon to Pyongyang," as he strives to break down the "high and invisible walls [of national boundaries]."

정대세 " 원더걸스와 데이트하고 싶어"

남아공 월드컵에 출전한 북한 대표팀의 스트라이커 정대세(26·가와사키 프론탈레)에 대한 외신의 관심이 높아지고 있다. 폐쇄적인 북한 이미지와 달리 자유분방한 스타일이라서 "경기할 때는 루니 같지만, 행동은 베컴같다"는 평가다.

AP통신은 14일남아공에서 관찰한 정대세의 모습을 전했다. '북한의 루니는 자동차와 옷, 랩을 좋아한다'는 제목의 기사에서 AP는 정대세의 출신 배경과 취미, 장래 희망 등을 자세히 소개했다.

AP는 정대세가 일본에서 태어난 재일동포로, 단 한번도 북한에 산 적이 없지만 북한대표팀에 합류했다고 전했다.

AP는 "정대세는 쇼핑과 스노보드를 좋아하고, 빅토리아 베컴과 같은 한국 여자와 결혼하길 원한다"며 "스스로를 패션 리더로 여기면서 헤어 스타일을 자주 바꾸고 스니커즈를 수집한다"고 전했다.

또 정대세가 바라는 5년 뒤 그의 모습을 이렇게 소개했다. "(가장 좋아하는 한국 걸그룹인) 원더걸스 멤버를 안고 유명 래퍼에게 어울릴 만한 차를 몰고 다닌다. 유럽의 유명 축구 클럽에서 뛰고 있다."

AP통신은 이어 "정대세가 북한 선수들과 성장 배경이 다르다는 점, 일본에서 쓰던 축구 장비나 시설이 북한 대표팀에 없다는 점 때문에 걱정을 많이 했다"며 "지금은 정대세의 아이팟, 노트북, 닌텐도 게임기가 북한 동료 선수들의 인기 오락거리"라고 전했다.

AP통신은 정대세가 북한 국가를 들으며 눈물을 흘릴 만큼 북한에 대한 자부심이 강하지만, 평양에서 살지는 않을 것"이라며 "재일동포의 존재를 세계에 알리는 것이 그의 목표"라고 전했다.
