Korea fails to make most of ground: Hiddink

Former Korean national football team coach Guus Hiddink has expressed regret about poor use of the ground by the Korean team in the World Cup match against Greece, while praising the goal by captain Park Ji-sung as “beautiful.”

In the website, Goal.com Nederland, Hiddink said Saturday that Korean footballers did not play well in general and they failed to make the most of the ground. He made a harsh remark to the team, although most Koreans are delighted with both playing and outcome of the game. Korea beat Greece 2-0.

Hiddink, however, criticized harder against the Greek team, saying “I don’t know what the Greek players did throughout the game,” and “their organization was totally flat.

But he extremely praised the goal from Park Ji-sung “beautiful” in an interview with state-run broadcaster, NOS of the Netherlands. “Park Ji-sung snatched the ball from Greek players, pressing them hard, and then led it to the goal in superb form,” Hiddink, said, praising both attack and defense capability of Park.

“It will be fantastic if the Korean team edges out Nigeria,” he said, adding that they should be cold-hearted in the two remaining games in the first round of Group B.

히딩크 `지성 골 최고`, 공간활용은?

거스 히딩크 전 한국 축구대표팀 감독이 한국과 그리스전 관전평에서 "한국팀이 공간을 잘 활용하지 못했다"며 아쉬움을 표했다. 그러나 그는 박지성 선수의 골에 대해서는 "아름다웠다"고 칭찬했다.

'골닷컴 네델란드'에 따르면 거스 히딩크는 12일(한국시간) 열린 한국과 그리스 전에 대해 "한국팀이 전반적으로 잘하지 못한 것 같다. 공간이 많았지만 이를 잘 활용치 못했다"고 적었다. 한국이 2-0으로 승리를 거뒀으나 과거 자신이 맡았던 팀에 '쓴소리'를 한 셈이다.

히딩크는 또 그리스에 대해서도 "경기 내내 무엇을 해야하는지 몰랐다"며 "조직력도 엉망"이라고 혹평했다.

그러나 인터넷 스포츠 매체인 스포탈코리아에 따르면 거스 히딩크는 네덜란드 공영방송 NOS와의 인터뷰에서 “박지성으로부터 나온 골은 아름다웠다”고 극찬했다. 히딩크 감독은 “박지성은 그리스를 잘 압박해 공을 빼앗았고 그대로 달려가 잘 마무리했다”며 수비와 공격력 모두를 칭찬했다.

한편 히딩크 감독은 “나이지리아를 밀어낼 수 있다면 정말 환상적인 일일 것”이라면서 “냉철함을 유지해야 한다”고 말했다.
