Oprah Winfrey cited as most influential in US

What can you add to an already impressive resume that includes hosting the highest-rated talk show in American history and being the richest African-American in the past 100 years? Oprah Winfrey has an answer: become recognized as one of the most influential women in the United States.

California first lady Maria Shriver will award Winfrey the prestigious Minerva Award, given to influential American women who "serve on the frontlines of humanity," at the annual California's Women's Conference this October.

She will be recognized for her work in the Angel Network charity and the Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, both founded by Winfrey herself.

The winners of the Minerva Awards receive $25,000 grants to further their work, as well as a special exhibit dedicated to their achievements at the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts in Sacramento.

Other winners of the Minerva Award this year include former Supreme Court judge Sandra Day O'Conner and Operation Gratitude founder Carolyn Blashek.
