Strip poker players trade underwear for chips

Can you imagine the sight of poker players taking off their clothes one by one in front of a large audience each time they lost a game?

That is exactly what happened last Friday in Hamburg, where poker players shed their clothes in their quest to win the title at Germany's first strip poker championship as well as an all expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas.

A total of 54 players competed in the championship in front of hundreds of enthusiastic spectators after preliminary games in Berlin, Dresden and Cologne.

Each player began with a stack of chips, and every time one ran out of chips the player had to take off a clothing item in order to receive more chips to stay in the competition.

The players were also given the option of trading in their underwear in exchange for extra chips, but not all players were prepared to give up their modesty completely.

In the final round, player Marcel Langkebel beat model Jasmin Sun and became the first strip poker champion in Germany.

The organizers of the championship said that the competition was such a success that they want to turn it into an international event.

스트립 포커대회, 국제대회로 확대

독일에서 큰 인기를 얻은 '스트립 포커 대회'가 국제대회로 확대될 수 있을까.

영국 오렌지 뉴스는 '독일 스트립 포커 대회' 조직위원회가 대회의 엄청난 인기를 등에 업고 국제대회로 확대했으면 하는 바람이라고 28일(현지시간) 전했다.

덴마크의 한 일간지(사진)도 이를 관심 있게 다뤘을 정도.

베를린, 드레스덴, 쾰른 등지에서 예선을 거친 제1회 독일 스트립 포커 대회 결선은 함부르크에서 치러졌다.

대회에는 프로, 아마추어 구분 없이 누구든 참가할 수 있었다. 다만 칩이 좀더 필요한 사람은 칩과 속옷을 맞바꿔야 했다.

구경꾼 수백 명은 한결같이 "일반 포커 대회보다 재미있었다"고.
