Is Diplomat Terrorist?

The Qatari diplomat can be expelled from the U.S. as he allegedly sneaked a smoke in an airliner bathroom, setting off a terrorism alarm that forced F-16 fighter jets to scramble and delayed tired passengers for hours Wednesday night, AFP reported.

Smoking on a plane and disrupting a flight are federal offenses that carry fines and possible jail term. But Justice Department prosecutors are prohibited from bringing charges against Mohammed al Madadi, a Qatari official protected by diplomatic immunity, according to U.S. officials.

They said Mr. Madadi was smoking a pipe in the bathroom on a United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Denver when he was caught. He then extinguished the pipe on his shoe, which triggered a huge misunderstanding that he had a bomb in his shoe, U.S. officials said.

미 관계자는 워싱턴 D.C에서 출발한 덴버 행 기내 화장실에서 마다디가 피우던 담배를 신발로 끄는 것을 신발 폭탄으로 오해했다고 설명했다.
