Handsome Beggar

A photo of a Chinese beggar walking in the street quickly sparked heated discussion since its first appearance on Jan 30. The beggar "Brother Sharp" is claimed the most stylish beggar by netizens, People’s Daily reported. He becomes more and more famous, not only home, but abroad. On Feb. 4, his photo even showed on Britain's newspaper "The Independent." How far will "Brother Sharp" go?

"The Independent" published a photo of him, and described as "a starkly handsome Chinese man walking with a model's measured gait, and wearing a rag-tag but well coordinated overcoat on top of a leather jacket. His eyes peer into the middle distance, in what one fan described as a ``deep and penetrating way,’’ and he strides confidently forward. More and more people pay attention to the stylish beggar, and compare him with many stylish hot stars worldwide.

Meanwhile, family members reunited with the vagabond-looking man last week after several years on the streets in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. There was speculation that the handsome beggar served as a soldier in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, in 1998, and went to Ningbo to work in 2002. His fiance wanted to meet him in Ningbo, but she was killed in a car crash. After the accident, he was in shock and was fired.

Nicknamed "Brother Sharp" for his clothes, Cheng Guorong, 34, checked out of Ningbo Mental Hospital where he was admitted after he gained publicity for his looks, Guangzhou Daily reported Sunday. The beggar brother was mentally healthy when he left home at 23, but hospital staff said he is now insane. Family members took "Brother Sharp" out of the hospital Friday, even though doctors suggested he needed observation.

중국 거지가 거리에서 찍힌 사진이 1월 30일 공개된 후 네티즌 사이에서 가장 스타일이 좋은 `얼짱 거지’라는 별명으로 인기를 얻게 되었다고 인민일보가 보도했다. 이 인기는 중국을 넘어 전 세계로 퍼지게 되었다. 지난 4일 이 얼짱 거지 사진은 영국의 인디펜던트지에까지 실렸다.

인디펜던트는 이 남자의 사진을 게재하면서 모델 같이 걸어 다니는 잘 생긴 거지라고 소개했다. 또한 그의 옷 스타일에 대해 상세히 묘사하면서 그의 눈빛을 깊고 날카롭다고 표현했다. 많은 사람들이 점차 이 얼짱 거지에 주목하기 시작했고, 그를 세계 인기 스타들과 비교하기 시작했다.

그러던 중 이 얼짱 거지는 지난 주 가족과 상봉했다.

그는 1998년 군인으로 입대한 후, 2002년에는 닝보 지역으로 일하러 떠났었다고 한다. 그의 약혼녀가 그를 보기 위해 닝보로 가던 중 교통사고를 당해 죽었고, 그는 그때 충격을 받았고, 해고를 당한 것으로 알려져 있다.

이 거지의 이름은 ‘쳉 구오롱’이라고 확인되었고 그의 얼굴이 알려지면서 들어가게 된 정신병원을 퇴원했다고 광쪼우 데일리가 보도하였다. 가족들은 병원에서 더 진찰이 필요하다고 했음에도 불구하고 쳉을 병원에서 퇴원시켰다.
