In January, Jang Won-young of K-pop girl group IVE won a civil lawsuit against Sojang, a YouTube channel notoriously known for spreading malicious rumors about Jang and many other K-pop stars. The Seoul Central District Court ordered the channel's operator — a woman in her 30s surnamed Park — to compensate the singer 100 million won ($75,000) for spreading false information and insults.
