Revealed: North-South summit site Panmunjom

Listen

Late March, the two Koreas agreed to hold their first summit in more than a decade on April 27 at the Peace House on the South Korean side of Panmunjom, after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged his commitment to denuclearisation as tensions ease between the two countries.

North and South Korea have experienced a significant easing in tensions since the Winter Olympics in the South in February. They are technically still at war after the 1950-53 conflict ended with a ceasefire, not a truce.

Kim chaired a party meeting on Monday (April 9) where he analysed development of inter-Korean relations and the future outcome of dialogue with the United States, the North's state media reported. U.S. President Donald Trump also said he planned to meet Kim next month or in early June and hoped the discussions would ultimately lead to an end of the North's nuclear weapons program.
