Korean pitcher Go Woo-suk released by US' Triple-A club

Korean pitcher Go Woo-suk has been released by his minor league club in the United States, becoming a free agent midway through his second season in America.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, announced Tuesday (local time) that they have cut ties with the right-handed reliever.

In five outings with the Jumbo Shrimp this year, Go had a 1.59 ERA over 5 2/3 innings without a win-loss record.

Go, 26, signed with the San Diego Padres in January 2024, after seven seasons with the LG Twins in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). He had been among the top closers in the KBO but never played in a big league game for the Padres, who kept him in the minors before trading him to the Marlins in May.

Go also failed to make it to the majors with the Marlins, who designated him for assignment only a few weeks after acquiring him last year.

For this year, Go was a non-roster invitee to the Marlins' spring training but suffered a broken finger that prevented him from competing for a roster spot.

After returning from his injury in early May, Go worked his way up from Rookie ball to Triple-A, only to be released by the Jumbo Shrimp.

With his career at a crossroads, Go may try to land with another U.S. club or return to the Twins.
