PyeongChang Olympics begins with curling

The opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics is still a day away, but the competition will get underway in curling and ski jumping on Thursday.

The round robin session in mixed doubles curling will be the first official event of these Olympic Games. Eight nations, including host South Korea, will be in action at Gangneung Curling Center in Gangneung, the host of all ice events located just east of PyeongChang.

South Korean duo of Jang Hye-ji and Lee Ki-jeong will face Finland in their first match at 9:05 a.m., and have their second match against China at 8:05 p.m.

In ski jumping, the qualification round for the men's individual normal hill event will start at 9:30 p.m. at Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre in PyeongChang.

Kim Hyun-ki and Choi Seo-u will represent South Korea. They'll be making their sixth Winter Olympics appearance, tied for most among South Korean athletes.

The top 50 will reach the first round scheduled for Saturday. (Yonhap)
