Korea Times staff member carries Olympics torch

The Korea Times staff member Jon Dunbar was among about 600 carriers of the PyeongChang Olympics torch in Seoul.

The Canadian national, who is a copy editor for the nation's oldest English daily, carried the torch about 100 meters with high school student Lim Su-min through a mountain trail in central Seoul, Sunday. Photos show Dunbar holding the Olympics torch in one hand and waving the other.

“It was surreal carrying the torch,” Dunbar said. “Beforehand I was very nervous I would drop it or commit some faux pas on camera. But when we ran it was fun. My relay partner was Lim Su-min, a high school student who was very smart. It was a huge honor to run along the Seoul city wall.”

The torch arrived in Seoul on Saturday and will crisscross the city until Monday. After leaving Seoul, the torch will travel the northern parts of Gyeonggi Province and head toward the host city of the Winter Games.

When it arrives at the Games, the torch will have traveled a combined 2,018 kilometers, and been carried by about 7,500 torchbearers. The Olympics will run from Feb. 9-25.
