Texas Rangers Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo, 33, has been placed on the disabled list again due to a strained hamstring after playing only one game, the Major League Baseball (MLB) team announced Monday (local time).
Choo returned from the disabled list Friday after missing 35 games with a strained right calf muscle, but left Friday’s game against the Houston Astros after the third inning as he felt tightness in his hamstring. The Rangers placed Choo on the 15-day disabled list and called up Jared Hoying from the minor leagues to replace him.
“It’s not easy to take this,” Choo was quoted as saying by the Star-Telegram. “I’m frustrated with myself but there are still a lot of games left. I’m staying positive and taking care of my hamstring and getting some extra time for my calf, too.”
Choo, who has been playing for the Rangers since the 2014 season, has played in just six games this season, recording a batting average of 0.188 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals’ Korean reliever Oh Seung-hwa threw a perfect inning in relief against the Chicago Cubs, lowering his ERA from 1.19 to 1.14.
At Busch Stadium, Oh followed Adam Wainwright in the seventh inning with the Cardinals trailing 3-1 and tossed a 1-2-3 inning, only throwing 13 pitches. He also recorded his 32nd strikeout after striking out Jorge Soler.
The Cardinals tied the game at 3-3 after Matt Adams hit a two-run homer in the bottom seventh, and in the bottom of the ninth, Randal Grichuck hit the tiebreaking run in the ninth to finish the game 4-3.
