The Korea Times invites readers to enjoy the crisp mountain air and early morning sunshine at the 456th Turtle Marathon this Sunday.
The event, organized by the Hankook Ilbo, the sister paper of The Korea Times, and supervised by the Korea Duck Association, will take place at Mount Namsan. The starting point will be Baekbeom Square, in Namsan Park's Hoehyeon area. The marathon has drawn more than 1.2 million people since 1978.
Kim Byeng-un, chairman of the Korea Duck Association, which has been supervising the Turtle Marathon since 2012, will lead the walkathon.
The six-kilometer course will lead from Baekbeom Square towards the National Theater of Korea, and then back to the square by way of the Mount Nam walking trail.
A prize drawing will be held at the finish of the event. Prizes include assorted duck meat gift sets, an LED TV, tickets to the percussion show "Drum Cat: The Festival," among others.
Students who participate in the cleanup afterward will receive certification for completion of three hours of voluntary work. Students can register at
