Korean tennis player Chung Hyeon has advanced to the second round of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, after defeating Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-0, Tuesday (KST).
Currently ranked 71st, the 19-year-old who was named the ATP’s Most Improved Player of the Year in 2015, will play the winner of a match between Tommy Paul and Paolo Lorenzi in the second round.
Juan Monaco, who won the tournament in 2012, also advanced to the second round after beating Gerald Melzer 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4. It was Melzer's 2016 tour debut after winning three Challenger series titles.
Denis Kudla took a win, fighting off Germany's Mischa Zverev 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2).
