Nam Yui-chul lost a 1-2 split decision to Mike De La Torre, in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night Seoul, Saturday, failing to overcome the early damage he received in the fight at the hands of De La Torre.
In the featherweight clash, Nam, who lost a split decision to Phillipe Nover in May, sought to rebound in front of the home crowd, but De La Torre thwarted Nam in his efforts to redeem himself.
From the early minutes of the first round, the two tested each other with one-two combinations, neither retreating.
Nam took a cut over his eyelid, though, which caused him trouble with his sight. Instead of striking, Nam attempted grappling De La Torre and take him off balance. But De La Torre is an experienced grappler himself and resisted Nam’s attempts.
As the third round began, Nam countered De La Torre’s botched high kick to take him down with a low tackle. But it wasn’t enough to turn the bout around. De La Torre landed 40 significant strikes, while Nam only made nine.
