Lotte Giants' Son Ah-seop / Yonhap
Lotte Giants outfielder Son Ah-seop’s quest for a Major League Baseball debut has fizzled after league clubs rebuffed his posting offer.
The Korean Baseball Organization said Tuesday the MLB office recently told the organization no team has bid for Son.
Son’s batting average, above 0.3 for six years in a row since 2010, is No. 1 among current KBO rosters. He recorded 13 homeruns, 54 RBI and 11 steals this season.
Son’s failed deal comes after Nexen Heroes shortstop Kang Jung-ho landed at the Pittsburg Pirates in January and the league’s Minnesota Twins proposed Park Byung-ho from the Heroes in a posting deal for $12.8 million.
Media reports Tuesday speculated that the MLB’s lack of interest was due to doubts about Son’s potential and skills as an outfielder and his physique.
The Giants are looking to negotiate infielder Hwang Jae-gyun as the next posting bid for the MLB.
