The Korean Association of National Team Members (KANTM) said Monday its mentoring program for young students has ended successfully.
The association, whose members are former athletes who represented Korea in international competitions, had operated the five-week program, Sports Classes for teenagers, up to Sunday. Celebrated athletes, including former volleyball player Chang Yoon-chang, mentored students in seven sports ― volleyball, basketball, table tennis, boxing, judo, handball and swimming.
The program sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation and Korea Council of Sport for All was held to give underprivileged students more opportunities to learn sports in Seoul, and Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces.
On Sunday, the KANTM also held a basketball competition and some 500 students from 48 teams competed in the event.
“It is a great pleasure to contribute to promoting physical and mental fitness through the sports classes which were held for the second time,” said Chang, who is also the president of KANTM. “The KANTM will do its best to create a sound culture in which teenagers enjoy sports through various programs,” he said.
