North Korean taekwondo masters were inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame and honored in a ceremony in Pyongyang last month, the Voice of America (VOA) reported Wednesday.
Chang Ung, president of International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF), and Pae Nung-man, vice chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, became new members, the report said.
Established in 1998, the Taekwondo Hall of Fame has been honoring people who have greatly contributed to the development of the sport.
The report said this was the first time that a Hall of Fame ceremony took place in North Korea. The new inductees were announced in Chelyabinsk Russia in May during
the 22nd WTF World Championships and the ceremony was held in Pyongyang on June 16.
Choue Chung-won, president of the World Taekwondo Federation, an organization of the sport based in South Korea, was also inducted.
