Two fencers from Nepal competing at the Gwangju Universiade will use equipment donated by the Korea Fencing Federation (KFF), the sporting body announced Saturday.
The Nepal Fencing Association requested the Korean Olympic Committee on June 22 to help their two fencers participate in the games.
As a friendly gesture to the country that suffered a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in April that killed more than 8,000 people, the KFF offered fencing equipment worth 1.1 million won ($980) to Nepali fencers. Fencers Sanjeep Lama and Rakhi Sharma have been provided with a mask, a jacket, a blade and a bag.
The KFF official added that the federation also fully funded expenses for the two fencers to stay at the athletes’ village during the event.
