LG Twins' pitcher suspended 3 months

LG Twins said Monday it has fined its pitcher Jeong Chan-heon 10 million won and suspended him for three months for his involvement in a drunk-driving accident.

In a statement, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club said Jeong admitted he had undergone a police investigation after hitting a motorcycle while driving under the influence of alcohol in Sinsa-dong, southern Seoul, Monday.

“We apologize to our fans and pledge to work harder in the management of our players,” the statement added.

This is not the first DUI-related suspension in pro baseball. Jung Hyung-sik of the Samsung Lions and Kia Tigers’ Sohn Young-min were suspended for drunk driving in 2014 and 2012, respectively. However, it is uncommon for a baseball player to be fined for driving under the influence.

The Twins are currently in ninth place among 10 clubs with a record of 30 wins, 38 losses and one tie.
