Indian female boxer L. Sarita Devi has been suspended from International Boxing Association (AIBA) bouts for a year, after refusing to accept a bronze medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
The association also fined her 1.13 million won ($1,026).
Devi lost her semifinal against Park Ji-na in the women’s lightweight division on Sept. 30. At the presentation ceremony, Devi said she disagreed with the result, and put it around Park’s neck. Park ultimately left the medal on the podium.
Devi was relieved at the penalty, because AIBA President Wu Ching-kuo predicted last month that she might be banned for life.
