There have been lots of postponed games in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) due largely to the recent torrential rains. But the league is hoping not to overload the schedule in order to make up the lost games.
“We respect the opinion of each team’s manager and we are considering not playing double headers or games on Mondays,” a KBO official said, Thursday.
Monday is the only day off for the players during the regular season.
The league expected to complete 500 games, 94 percent of a total 532, by Aug. 28, but so far there have been 66 postponements.
The KBO will draw up a new schedule soon and it will start from Aug. 30.
“The opinion was, playing on Mondays is better than double header and delaying the post season is better than playing on Monday,” a KBO official said.
The official said if it is necessary the playoffs will be pushed back.
But if more games are canceled under the new schedule, the players will be forced into action on Mondays or in double headers.
The KBO’s goal is to end the postseason before Nov. 5.
Since the Korean Series between the Hyundai Unicorns — a predecessor of the Nexen Heroes — and Samsung Lions had their ninth game on Nov. 1 in 2004, all postseasons have wrapped up in October.
