AS Monaco forward Park Chu-young will likely be transferred to a major club in either England or France, according to European media.
The Sunday Times, the weekend edition of a British daily, reported that a fee of 5.3 million pounds ($8.6 million) has been agreed for the transfer of Park to Tottenham Hotspur.
The paper added that the 25-year-old striker’s move to Spurs is at an advanced stage.
The English version of Metro also announced that team boss Harry Redknapp is “desperate to add some firepower to his squad.”
Tottenham’s three main strikers scored only 18 goals in the Premier League in the 2010-2011 season.
The Metro claimed that Park is a “less high-profile forward” compared to the London outfit’s former targets, Porto’s Hulk and Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi.
However, contradicting this French football site, foot01 said Park is likely to move to another team in France. It reported that although English Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Bolton are showing interest in Park, Lille would be the best choice as it can offer Champions League football next season.
Park’s current team Monaco was relegated to the French second division for the first time since 1976. Park scored 12 goals in 32 games this season.
After seeing his side relegated, Park mentioned that he would like to play at a bigger club capable of competing in the Champions League.
During a press conference the day before a friendly with Ghana, Park said that he was not sure about the on-going transfer speculation, saying it would be better to check with his European agency.
In 2008, Park signed a four-year deal with AS Monaco. He netted five goals and had six assists in his debut season, and scored nine more the following season.
