Manchester United have expressed a wish to extend Korean midfielder Park Ji-sung’s contract.
According to British newspaper The Telegraph, Park is set for negotiations with Manchester United at the start of next season.
“Manchester United is an important club and I am happy if I’m seen as an important part of the club. In football anything can happen, but I’ve been here six years and I like this club,” Park said to The Telegraph.
While Park, who returned to South Korea on Tuesday, has often said he wanted to see out his career with the Red Devils, it is the first report from the local media on Park’s future with Manchester United with one year left before his contract expires.
The 30-year-old played an important role for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team last season and Park proved his value netting eight times in 28 games with six assists.
Park was also named man of the match in the second-leg Champions League quarterfinal against Chelsea scoring the game-winning goal.
The former Korean national team captain moved to the current Premier League champions and Champions League runner-up from PSV Eindhoven in June 2005 in a 4 million pound transfer and extended his contract in 2009 signing for 3.6 million pounds a year until 2012.
