Ki Sung-yueng candidate for legendary midfielder Zidane

Ki Sung-yueng, 22, of Celtic FC, nicknamed the "Korean Gerrard," has been chosen as one of 25 candidates for legendary midfielder Zinedine Zidane by the Bleacher Report in the U.S.

Seen as the heir-apparent to Korea's star playmaker Park Ji-sung of the Manchester United, Ki scored three goals to go along with two assists in only 13 Scottish Premier League appearances for Celtic. He ranked 12th in the list.

Ki is a young player with great control over the ball, even while running at full speed.

Ki also has a great eye for the back of the net, with the ability to score from nearly every angle with both feet.

Like Park, he can also seamlessly switch between wide and central positions, it said.

Alexander Merkel, 19, of AC Milan topped the list of 25 players, followed by Josh McEachran, 18, of Chelsea.

Shinji Kagawa, 22, of Borrusia Dortmund ranked 14th, while Keisuke Honda, 24, of CSKA Moscow placed 21st.

Ki has been a staple of the Korean national side's senior squad since his breakthrough at FC Seoul in 2008 and should continue to develop into one of the best attacking talents the country has ever produced, the Bleacher Report said.

미국 `블리처 리포트`는 22일 기성용을 박지성(맨체스터 유나이티드)의 후계자로 지목하면서 기성용이 올 시즌 스코틀랜드 프리미어리그에서 13경기에 출장해 3득점, 2도움을 올리며 성공적인 시즌을 보내고 있다고 평가했다. 기성용은 25인 중 12위에 랭크 됐다.

블리처 리포트는 "기성용은 전력 질주하면서도 탁월한 볼 컨트롤을 할 수 있다”고 소개.

또한 기성용은 넓은 시야를 갖췄고 양발을 사용해 어느 지점에서도 득점할 수 있는 선수다"며 극찬했다.

블리처 리포트는 기성용은 박지성 처럼 측면과 중앙서 모두 플레이 할 수 있는 선수라고 높이 평가했다.

한편 1위에는 독일 출신 유망주 알렉산데르 메르켈(19, AC 밀란)이 선정됐으며 2위에는 잉글랜드 출신 인 조시 메쿠키크란(18, 첼시)가 이름을 올렸다.

기성용은 14위 가가와 신지(도르트문트)와 21위 혼다 게이스케(CSKA 모스크바)를 제치고 아시아 선수 중 가장 높은 순위를 기록했다.
