South Korea won five gold medals at the Asian Winter Games in Kazakhstan Wednesday, bringing the total number of golds to 10 during the first three days.
Speed skater Lee Seung-hoon won the men's mass start speed skating event, his second gold at the competition. Lee won with a time of 20 minutes, 18.09 seconds.
Lee won his first goal in the men's 5,000-meter race Monday. At the Indoor Speed Skating Stadium in Astana , Lee topped the pack at 6:25.55, breaking his own Asian record by about 0.8 seconds. This is the first career Winter Asiad gold for Lee, who won silver in the distance at the Vancouver Winter Olympics a year ago.
Korean skaters also won the men's 5,000-meter relay short track speed skating event Wednesday.
In Astana, the Korean men's team came in at 6 minutes, 44.705 seconds to win gold and set a new Asian record. Kim Byeong-jun, Lee Ho-suk, Noh Jin-kyu and Sung Si-bak raced in the event.
Park Seung-hi and Cho Ha-ri of South Korea added gold and silver in the women's 1,000-meter short track speed skating event.
Park crossed the finish line in 1 minute, 33.343 seconds to grab gold, with Cho a close second at 1:33.622. Liu Quihong of China finished third at 1:33.903.
South Korea's Noh Seon-yeong and Lee Ju-youn won gold and bronze medals in women's long-distance speed skating on the same day.
Noh clocked in at 18 minutes, 7.5 seconds to win gold. She was followed by Masako Hozumi of Japan, who came in at 18:07.35, while Lee finished third at 18:07.378.
South Korean female skier Lee Chae-won won the country's first gold medal in cross-country skiing at the Winter Asian Games Wednesday.
In Almaty, Lee crossed the finish line in 36 minutes, 34.6 seconds to win the women's 10-kilometer free event. Before her victory, South Korea had never won gold in cross-country skiing at the Winter Asian Games.
