Korea has won the approval on its racing track for its first Formula One event slated for next week from the international motor sports governing body.
"The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has approved the Korean International Circuit in southwestern South Korea after conducting an inspection," said the event operator Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO)said Tuesday.
The 5.615-kilometer-long track for the Korean Grand Prix, slated for Oct. 22-24 in Yeongam, some 400 km south of Seoul, was completed last week.
Chief FIA investigator Charlie Whiting said that the FIA will issue a license to hold the motor sports event as scheduled.
The FIA approval came after months of postponement caused by construction delays.
The Korean Grand Prix is the 17th race of the year, while Mark Weber of Red Bull Racing team is leading the drivers' championship list with 220 points with only three events remaining this year.
