Korean Boxers Can Compete at Worlds
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) will allow South Korean boxers to compete in the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan next month.
The Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) said Tuesday that the world governing body had lifted its suspension on the Korean Amateur Boxing Federation (KABF).
The KABA was banned indefinitely for a weigh-in violation for a boxer at the national qualifying tournament for the World Junior Championships and for sending an unqualified team doctor to the competition, held in Yerevan, Armenia, in May.
As a result, Korean fighters as well as its executives were forbidden to participate in international events.
To make the KABF situation worse, the AIBA suspended KABF President Yoo Jae-joon for 18 months.
With Yoo accepting the suspension, the AIBA has given the final nod for Korean boxers to compete at the world championship.
Choi Jong-jun, the KOC secretary-general, will serve as acting headman for the KABF.
