Bolton Wanderers midfielder Lee Chung-yong debuted in the English Premier League (EPL) in a home opener with Sunderland at the Reebok Stadium, Saturday (Sunday in KST).
The South Korean, who turned 21 last month, replaced Gavin McCann in the 67th minute. Lee impressed fans with vital moves for 22 minutes until the end of the game.
Lee became the seventh Korean to play in the league. Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Lee Young-pyo, Fulham striker Seol Ki-hyeon, former Middlesbrough forward Lee Dong-gook, former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Kim Do-heon, and Wigan Athletic midfielder Cho Won-hee have each played on the stage.
Lee also became the youngest Korean footballer to play in the European league at 21 years and one month.
It is reported that Lee signed with the club for three years for 1.5 billion won ($1.2 million) per year.
