The South Korean baseball team will finally get its own practice stadium in Goyang City.
Goyang City Mayor Kang Hyun-suk reached an agreement with Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) Commissioner Yoo Young-goo and Korea Baseball Association (KBA) President Kang Seung-kyoo to build a new stadium for the national team. Construction will begin in December with completion slated for 2011.
The tentative name for the new facility is Goyang National Baseball Center (Goyang NBC).
Despite its recent success internationally, the team has never had its own home field. Mayor Kang said the facility will also be a great benefit to Goyang City.
``It will be perfect for practicing,'' Mayor Kang said. ``And as we hold some big and small events there, it will eventually be recognized as one of the most famous places in Goyang."
The national baseball center will be part of a large sports facility in Daewha, which will also include a smaller baseball stadium and other facilities.
