South Korea won the first two singles rubbers against China in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group-I second-round tie in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, Friday.
Im Kyu-tae, ranked No. 212, defeated 536th-ranked Gong Mao-xin, the top player on the squad, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 in the opening singles and veteran Lee Hyung-taik downed Zeng Shao-xuan 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
A victory in the four-singles, one-doubles round will earn Korea a place in Group 1.
Lim Yong-kyu and Seol Jae-min will meet Zhang Ze and Wu Di in the doubles on Saturday.
