Shin Tae-yong has been named interim manager of Seongnam Chunma following the resignation of current coach Kim Hak-beom.
Seongnam made the announcement Tuesday and comes in the wake of Kim's decision to leave after his team lost in the second round of the K-League playoffs.
``I am a little afraid because Kim resigned even though Seongnam's record was not bad. But I'd like to repeat the Chunma's record of winning three straight championships,'' said Shin, who has just become the youngest manager among the present crop of K-League coaches.
Shin first joined the club as a player in 1992 and scored 99 goals, with 68 assists, in 401 games until his retiral in 2004.
The 38-year-old was a member of the Seongnam team that won three straight championships on two occasions ― from 1993 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2003.
Seongnam's new manager also earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 1995 and 2001 and he recorded the most score in 1996.
After Shin retired from playing, he spent time working as a technical coach with Australian A-League side Queensland Roar.
